June 20, 2007:
A Starry Grove Gallery, Autumn Moon Art & Gifts, and Pooka Fairy Studio would like to invite you to participate in a new project - http://www.FantasyArtShow.com !!
What is the project about?
Fantasy Art Show – On the Road is a new project that is dedicated to promoting fantasy artwork from artists of all skill levels. Our goal is to help fantasy artists gain additional exposure and to introduce fantasy art to a wider audience.
What is it called an 'On the Road' show?
That's simple – each art show we feature will also have an off-line portfolio is each submission along with the artist bios. Being included in the portfolio is completely optional, free, and does not require any additional information on your part. We simply take your submitted pieces and 'scrapbook' them onto a page with your biographical information. These portfolios will be on display at every show attended by A Starry Grove Gallery. Please note: No prints or merchandise will be produced from these images.
How often will these shows be available?
Three times per year, artists may submit work to our online and on the road art shows. Each of these art shows will have a different theme that must be followed. For instance, if our theme is faeries, mermaid submissions will not be accepted. Each artist who successfully submits a piece, s/he will have the option of allowing this piece to be featured in our "Fantasy Art Show On the Road" gallery, which will be featured at all the renaissance fairs and shows that is attended by A Starry Grove Gallery
How do I get my own bio page on the site?
Individual bio pages are limited to those artists who submit to our art shows on a regular basis (meaning 2 out of the 3 shows per year). This page will be setup as a sort of online resume of the artwork that you have submitted to us. These artists will also have the option of a personalized email address through our site.
I see that artist has their images on tote bags and other merchandise. How does this happen?
Artists who submit works on a regular basis are also eligible to purchase merchandise featuring their artwork at wholesale prices through our sister company, Indigo Art Services. Please note: a higher resolution image file is required for these products. Artists may purchase items with their own images only. You may not order items with artwork that is not your own. Payment is due at the time of your order.
Do you accept mail-in artwork?
Yes we do! If for some reason you may not be able to send us your images via email, please feel free to mail them to us, but pay attention to the deadline! We must RECEIVE your work before the go-live date.
Rules:
Each art show will have its own limit as to how many images you may submit. Series themes, such as Zodiac pieces, may allow a greater number of allowed pieces. Please follow the submission rules carefully. If a show allows only two pieces, you may only submit two pieces. The first two pieces we receive will be the ones displayed. Any additional pieces will be deleted.
Artwork of any medium will be accepted
For each piece you are submitting, you must provide me two images. The first image should be 225 pixels on its longest side and no more than 72 dpi. The second image should be 500 pixels on its longest side and no more than 100 dpi. Watermarking your image is recommended. If you need help resizing your images, I will be happy to help you, BUT you must ask for help. If your images are the wrong size and you do not ask for help resizing them, they will not be used. I'm sorry if this causes a problem for you, but we don't have time to resize dozens of images. Please note that image resizing will be done after all other pieces have been put in place so this process will cause a delay in getting your piece online. Please email your entries to submissions@fantasyartshow.com .
If your work contains PG-13+ nudity or any other sort of graphic material, you must put a disclaimer in your subject heading. This work will be placed on a separate page with an age disclaimer. We reserve the right to reject artwork that contains graphic sex and/or violence. We also reserve the right to remove anyone's artwork with or without reason. Pieces that discriminate against a person's age, race, gender, sexuality, etc will not be shown under any circumstances.
Original works only, please! Images that are copied or traced from another artist's work or photo will not be shown.
Note about fan art: While we appreciate the fact that fan art is popular, we must limit it within the shows. Obvious portrayals of a celebrity in a famous roll will not be accepted. For instance, if we have a pirate theme, submitting an image of Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom will not be allowed. You may submit a piece INSPIRED by, but not copied from, the original media source.
You may use work that has been previously submitted to other art shows, but once you submit a piece to one of our art shows, you may not use that piece in future shows on our site. This is to help keep each show fresh and unique since all of our shows will remain online for the life of the site.
Please pay attention to submission deadlines. Once the show goes 'live', we will not accept any more submissions.
The website will be updated tonight with the current show schedule for the remainder of the year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at info@fantasyartshow.com.
You are also invited to join our yahoogroup. Just send an email to fantasyartshow-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or visit our page at Fantasy Art Show Yahoo Group
May 1, 2007:
Wooo hooo!!! 18 days and counting until the beginning of the 2007 faire season! We have a very full schedule this year
Mayfaire was the first faire that I ever vended at and I'm glad it's still the one that starts off the season. It runs the last two weekends in May in Marshall, MI
Then we're off to Derbyshire for the last two full weekends in June. This one is held near Muskegon, MI
July is always a busy month as the Silverleaf Ren Faire starts so we're heading back down to Battle Creek!
In August we have a couple of events we're heading off to before we take a seven week break to manage Jessica Galbreth's booth at the Michigan Renaissance Faire. The first event we'll be heading off to is the World of Faeries festival in South Elgin, IL. After that, it's a short drive to the Rockford Celtic Festival in Rockford, Michigan.
We have several other potential shows we might do, but as always, it's going to depend on available staff. If you're attending one of these events, stop by and say hi!
March:
While reading through the March issue of The Artists Magazine, I found an interesting article on what every artist should know about copyright. Unfortunately, it is not on the website (yet?), but the writer - who is a practicing lawyer and a law professor - does have a website - http://www.dubofflaw.com . I encourage everyone to check it out. He's got articles on there for all sorts of topics. Stop by the Artists Magazine as well - they have a decent archive of articles too!
January:
As some of you know, I've been working like made trying to get the website updated. Well, I ran into a slight snag last week - big software upgrade - and things aren't working the way they used to. While this means I have to start over in some areas, it's definitely for the best. I can do some things now that I wasn't able to do before and I think the site will look cleaner because of it. The myspace site is being redone as well.
I'm also adding a much larger retail gallery then previous thought. Most of these items will not be available at the faires because of jurying issues, but I will bring what items I can. I also don't want to stray too far from our original product lines.
